Uh Oh, It's Lice!

Mrs. Kooky recently found herself in a situation that may be familiar to many of you. Her 6 year old daughter was sent home from school with lice. Tragedy! Having never dealt with lice before, I had no idea what I was looking for or even how to begin delousing my daughter's very ample head of long hair! I had heard of a local "Lice Fairy" who could delouse my daughter but a friend (who will remain unnamed but you know who are - I'll have something special up my sleeve for you later) suggested that I try to delouse my daughter's locks myself before dumping a whole load of cash on the "Lice Fairy". So, I sat down to begin the FOUR hour process of delousing my daughter's head. After a while, I got used to the process and actually enjoyed the quality time with my daughter. I became frustrated, however, when the next day, the school nurse would not allow my daughter back in to school because she still had some nits in her head (I was thinking that the nurse was a pure nit wit or witch, whatever is more appropriate)!

Feeling frustrated, I began to research treatment for lice and found that the shampoo I had used in my daughter's head the day prior to kill the lice was a neurotoxin (http://www.headlice.org/ - refer to Jesse's Project). PANIC set in! Had I just poisoned my daughter leading her to a lifelong battle with some unnamed disease?!! Thank God I had not followed my gut and washed her hair twice with the shampoo in effort to kill all those unsavory bugs!

I was at my wits end. Apparently, I had not exterminated properly. I needed a fumigation expert! So, I got on the horn to the Nit Fairy begging for help. Nit Fairy to the rescue! It turns out I had a done a pretty good job delousing but there were still some critters left. The Nit Fairy took care those remaining pesky little creatures.

Long story short, locate a Nit Fairy (www.nitfairy.com) the next time you need a delousing! It was money well spent! Not only did the Nit Fairy know exactly what to look for, she used organic products to delouse, not NEUROTOXINS (as I later found out, the organic delousing products are not the easiest to find around town). And, she was glad to share some nit/lice preventing tips which I just have to pass along to my friends and followers. Here are some Nit Fairy tips: 1) Wash your kids' hair with Suave Rosemary Mint Shampoo & Conditioner (those little creatures don't like MINT) which can found at your local drug or grocery store, 2) Even if your child doesn't have lice, comb your child's hair with a lice comb every day, 3) Use Nit Free, an organic natural mint oil spray daily to help prevent lice (available at Kooky Kidz or on the Internet), and 4) if your child does get lice, make sure to use an organic product to delouse!

I hope that this blog entry has helped someone, as I had no idea where even to start when my daughter contracted lice! Happy delousing!

Digitsavers for Easter!

Kooky Kidz has recently discovered a great new product called Digitsavers. The digitsaver™ pinch guard was developed from a need to find a creative, innovative way to address some of life’s everyday challenges. As a mother of two young children, Jeri Keating, envisioned andcreated a solution to some of her everyday challenges and called it the “digitsaver”. The "digitsaver" pinch guard addresses more issues than that of “pinched fingers”. It allows life to function just a bit more smoothly...and, as most parents of young children know, that can make all the difference in the world.

Some unique features of the Digitsaver are: 1) It fits on most door knobs and lever handles; 2) Its portable...take it with you where-ever you go; 3) Its easy to install, no tools required, just attach to any doorknob; 4) It does not cause damage to hinges or door frames like other products on the market; 5) It blocks door open to prevent young children (or pets) from accidentally locking themselves in a room; 6) It prevents door from blowing shut due to an open window or forced air heater.

To use the Digitsaver, simply attach the donut-shaped ring with animal head onto the outside knob of door with animal head sticking out into the door jam. Specifically, the North Florida Great Pyrenes Club is always looking for homes for their gentle giants. The Great Pyrenes is a loving family dog and such gentle sweet giants. Please consider giving a pet in a home before purchasing a pet. It will be the best decision you ever made! To the left is Mrs. Kooky's own Yogi Boo Boo, who was adopted in March 2006 from the North Florida Great Pyrenes rescue in Gainesville.

Baby Loves Disco - Tampa

Baby Loves Disco (http://www.babylovesdisco.com/) made its way to Tampa Bay for the first time on February 15, 2009 for a Valentines Ball. All the kids had a great time boogeying & enjoying the many activities offered at this awesome event. Just a few were make up for the divas (by Aveda), face painting, massages, fairies with pixie dust, yoga demonstrations by Yogani and an infant activity area by Precious Cargo. Of course, there were tons of candy kisses, animal crackers, fruit, veggies & V-Day treats for everyone! Of course, Kooky Kidz fashions were spotted....check them out!

We here at Kooky Kidz along with many others in Tampa are very sad to say goodbye to our dear friend, Alyson Hobbie. Alyson was just one month into 40 when she lost her battle with breast cancer approximately 1 1/2 weeks ago. Alyson will always be remembered as a wonderful lady, fantastic mother, a super brainiac who loved to read & an overall outstanding person. Alyson leaves behind a super fantastic son, Beau, only 7 years young. We look forward to many years of having Beau around to love on. Please help out the Hobbie family as they adjust to their role of being caretakers of Beau. Gasparilla is in the air in Tampa!

Gasparilla is in the air in Tampa! If you are unfamiliar with Gasparilla, it is a huge annual celebration of the pirate invasion (similar to Mardi Gras). It is beloved by all the locals (& many even come in to town for the event). Kooky Kidz kicked off the Gasparilla season by having a Buy Your Booty, Sell Your Booty Pre-Gasparilla Girls' Night Out last night. It was a huge success! I can't believe I have a website!

Seriously, I can't believe that I have a website! My co-workers @ my job in my former life would certainly agree that I am NO computer genious! As I look at my newly launced website, I can't believe that I (the computer idiot of all idiots) have embarked on this journey! Forget just that, I am not one to take chances or do anything on a whim. Starting Kooky Kidz was started on a dream & a whim (literally)! I just woke up one morning, told my husband that I was going to start a kids clothing business & did it. What was I thinking? I have to say that I think it was my old Grandma Helen speaking to me in my sleep again (call me crazy). I guess the clothing business is in my family blood as my Nanny Helen had a clothing manufacturing business along with my uncle AND my cousin has one in NJ. As I embark on this new crazy journey, I want to thank all my friends and family who have supported me in this dream and decision made on a whim. Especially, my husband who has been so supportive of me in this endeavour. All of my love to my to my whole support systems, especially my Bumm and my little llamas! I definately could not have made it through this long & tough holiday season without you!

Kidapalooza

Yesterday was Tampa's first Kidapalooza held in conjunction with Divine Events/Divine Moms. It was great to see so many show up for this great event. I witnessed a real sense of community through this event. There were carolers and dancers from Carl Di Marco as well as many vendors. Santa even showed up for the kids. Also, there was face painting, a bounce house & other activities for the little ones. Kooky Kidz was of course a vendor @ this event & as usual thanks all its loyal supporters & new friends for their support. To the girls @ Divine Events - excellent job on their first BIG event - good job girls!
